The story so far. Below is the story so far, I will update as often as I can.

28/12/11 The new camera is really really good, everyone says how bad the kit lenses are but if these are the results from a bad lense... I have also ordered a 50mm f1.8 prime lense so cant wait to try that out. I will post some pictures in the next day or 2.

21/12/11 Camera ordered, I went with the Canon 550d/Rebel T2i as I got it for a bargain price here. I went with the kit lense since it was only a few pounds extra with the lens and should be good to start with. Next purchase has to be a prime lens, we shall see how things go at Christmas :) Hopefully I will be able to start posting some pictures soon.

18/12/11 Christmas is coming up fast now and everyone is so busy, inlduing me. I have just tried to look for anywhere that is selling a nikon D3100 at a reasonable price and noticed that it is out of stock almost everywhere. A little research discovered that a cruicial Nikon factory was flooded in the recent Thailand floods. This means that there is very limited stock of some Nikon cameras. Looks like I need to either wait a couple of months or choose something else. I am looking at the Canon 550D/Rebel T2i as an alternative. The quality looks to be at least as good but not quite as easy to control. I had a quick look at the Sony A35 also but everyone says the picture quality just isnt as good .... I will just have to keep looking and maybe hit a shop to have a feel of them.

3/12/11 The auction (from the news section) is now upto £255 with 24 hours still to go. That along with Christmas money will pay for my camera and lense. Starting to feel a lot like Christmas!! :)

27/11/11 I am starting to auction some old stuff on Ebay to raise some cash for my camera purchase. Check out my ebay listings here.

15/11/11 I have drawn up my list of items I need to purchase to start with listed below along with where I found them cheapest today. I will be purchasing these just after christmas to get the sale prices so hopefully I will save some cash.

Nikon D3100 £399.99
A bag to keep it in £15.99
Memory cards (2 x 16Gb) £31.00
35mm f1.8 lense £164.95

The choice of a 35mm lense to start with is due in no small part to Jared Polin at froknowphotos.com, my favourite review of the D3100 is at his site here.

13/11/11 I have decided which camera to buy and its the Nikon D3100, no matter what I read there isn't a camera I see that would be better suited for my first foray in to DSLR. I will be buying the D3100 with the 18-55mm kit lense to start me off and need to decide on the extras I will need. I will details the extras I am thinking about later.

12/11/11 Well its officially christmas season as everyone has just put there prices up and the average cost of the cameras I am looking at have increased by £30. I think I might just save my money for the sales just after christmas. Still favouring the D3100 as the reviews are all positive e.g. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond3100/

6/11/11 Last nights fireworks were very good, but it would have been even better if I had a decent camera to capture the event. We had our own fireworks to set off in my in laws garden. Once they were done then we walked round the front of there house to watch the big fireworks from Glasgow Green.

2/11/11 I am currently in the process of choosing a camera for Santa to buy me. I am really liking the look of the Nikon D3100 as it looks like a great starter camera. I could also go for something a bit more mid range with the Nikon D5100 or the Canon 550d, but I am not sure I should take the jump straight to a higher level when I don't really know that much about the subject yet.
